Sang-Sik HONG

Biography

South Korean artist Hong Sang-Sik (1974) has transformed our impression of everyday items such as plastic straws into symbols of strength and complexity - a contrast to today’s technology-dominated society. He connects images of power and desire by using numbers to add volume to his images.

Technique

His symbols represent sex and power; he creates detailed portraits of facial parts – eyes, lips. His technique, artistically mounting plastic straws onto a vertical platform, forces viewers to experience it from an unusual point and initiates a reason to explore this elusive “image within an image”.
