For self-taught artist Hierro (1959) the world of art imposed itself as his main center of interest very quickly. He began painting young and his works were first exhibited in a gallery when he was only 18. in 1977, he started to paint and to create sculptures that he went on to exhibit with growing success, first in Nice and St. Tropez, later in Toulouse, Paris, Frankfurt, Vienna and Basel.
Soon he started appearing at Art Basel, Vienna, Munich and more; and later moved to the US. His career started with classical painting but soon his artistic focus shifted towards contemporary art, with collages, colors and cuttings.

His influences are diverse, as they range from action painting to pop art, and of course the school of which always remains a strong point of reference for him.
